The American Center for Physics will be open today with normal business hours. The daycare center in College Park will be closed from Monday, July 6th through Friday, July 10th. The daycare center will reopen on Monday, July 13, 2009.

To all staff at ACP:

The American Center for Physics has a probable case of influenza in the daycare center in College Park, MD. All parents of children in the daycare center have been notified, and the daycare center has been closed through the end of this week.

We are in contact with the County Health Department. ACP will comply with procedures suggested by the health authorities regarding the operation and disinfection of the daycare center. We have already initiated a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the day care center and other common areas on the first floor of the ACP building.

In a spirit of caution, we urge all staff in the building to be attentive to this issue. If you have any flu-like symptoms (fever in excess of 100 degrees, sore throat, coughing, achiness) we urge you to see your physician and to stay away from work. If your physician directs that you not go to work, please respect that order. Individual societies in the building will decide how to handle the use of sick leave for their own staff under these circumstances. Health authorities urge that individuals with flu-like symptoms remain away from the workplace for seven days or until symptoms have been absent for at least 24 hours.
